Nairobi, Kenya: Kenya national under-20 women’s volleyball team will be seeking for positive results during the African Nations Youth Championships set for February 24 to March 2 in Egypt.

volleyball_pix_mediumSylvester Kioko, one of the four coaches who are managing the team said the preparations have been great after a period of one and half months.

“Our aim is to qualify for the World Championships. We have trained well with team playing matches against Kenya Volleyball Federation league clubs. We played Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) today and won. We will play Kenya Pipeline on Friday morning at the same venue,” said the coach.

The team defeated Nairobi Water 3-2 but was not able to match the experienced Kenya Prisons succumbing to a straight set defeat.

Kioko, alongside National Youth Talent Academy (NYTA) coach Catherine Mabwi, William Kemboi and UK-based coach Chris Grant is in charge of the junior team.

Grant has worked in the country before conducting technical development clinics with coaches and helping the men national team technical bench.

This will be second time the country will be parading the junior women team with the youth team winning a silver medal behind Egypt in Botswana during the Youth African Games last year.
