Tanzania Sport Writers Association (TASWA) will conduct training for junior sports writers on Wednesday.
The training that aims to impart sports reporting skills to young journalists will be held at Valentino Royal Hotel in Dar es Salaam and is sponsored by Times Radio.
TASWA vice-chairman Egbert Mkoko has praised Times Radio Director Rehura Nyaulawa and Valentino Hotel Manager Kapara Hamis for sponsoring the one-day clinic.
“I’m happy to announce today that Times Radio is our main sponsor for the seminar to be held at Valentino Royal Hotel,” he said.
“We thank you and hope you’ll continue to support Taswa in our endeavour to promote sports in the country,” he added. Mkoko said TASWA is always in the forefront in ensuring sport writers are upgraded to perform their duties professionally.
The association will organize other seminars in April and May, this year. He said the seminar to be attended by 40 journalists will be conducted by experts from various sports such as football, athletics, netball, basketball.
Nyaulawa said his radio, being the main stakeholder for sports news, has for so long been fighting for journalists to be trained to broaden their skills and understanding to reporting all games in a professional way.
“We believe after this seminar the journalist will improve their sport reporting and, therefore, we call upon other stakeholders not to hide their faces whenever they are approached by Taswa,” he said.
Hamis said his hotel has been exceptionally used by various teams from different countries. “We’re happy to be part of the training for young journalists as it is conducted at our hotel,” he said.
