Last week British Gas (BG) Tanzania and Africare Tanzania an NGO, launched the Youth Empowerment project in Mtwara under the name “Kijana Jikwamue”.
According to the Mtwara Acting Regional Administrative Officer Mr Johansen Bukwali, the project aims at improving the livelihoods of youth in Mtwara district through entrepreneurial mentoring, and life-skills training.
BG Tanzania is investing 1.23 Billion/-, for the three year project which aims at creating and delivering opportunities for youth.
The project objective is to support youth by educating them on business skills and initiatives, empowering them to start or expand their own enterprises, and to create employment opportunities for communities.
BG Tanzania Lead Advisor on Social Performance and Government Affairs, Mr Emil Karuranga, speaking on behalf of Head of Policy and Corporate Affairs “BG Tanzania believes that the key to harnessing the country’s socio-economic development opportunities lies in capacity building.
Investing in Tanzania’s human capital is the most effective way to ensure that the benefits of economic growth are broad based. Youth empowerment is our priority because they are Tanzania’s future”.
Speaking on behalf of Africare Tanzania, Alfred Kalaghe, Deputy Country Director, said “Africare is pleased that BG Tanzania has set aside resources to empower the youth to undertake enterprises that will increase their earning, create employment, and improve their livelihoods.
Africare believes that if youths are encouraged to participate in activities that improve their living standards, then they will be empowered to contribute to the national economy and its stability”.
