Central and West Zone triumphed in the boys and girls shotput events at the ongoing 20th edition of the Inter- Primary School Games, UMITASHUMTA held at Kibaha Education Centre, Coast region.
West Zone’s Agatha Paulo smashed out 9.26 metres on her throw to win the girls category event, while Peter Kitungulu hit 10.01 metres to win the boys’ shot.
Sophia Abdallah from Central Zone (9.00meters) and Highlands’ Sakina Ngullo (8.68metres) grabbed silver and bronze medal respectively.
The boys’ silver medal went to Charles Masanja of West Lake, while Amosi Kimita of Lake Zone won bronze medal.
In athletics, Sara Joel of Lake reached the 800metres final after finishing in first place in her heat using 2:19.87 minutes.
Sara was joined in the final by Central Zone’s Philomena Andrew (2:21.04 minutes), Southern Highlands’ Ester Mligo (2:24.04 minutes), and East Zone’s Legina Deogratius.
Others who qualified for the 800 metres final are Shida Makaranga (Lake Zone, 2:20.75), Julita Anthony (Central Zone 2:21.68), Mariam Mwita (Lake Zone, 2:17.81), Elita Gabriel (Central Zone, 2:21.72), Elieth Jackson (Highlands, 2:22.87), Sharifa Hussein (South Zone, 2:21.23), Marietha Bahati (West Lake, 2:24.30) and Kesia Oyesi (Highlands, 2:25.34).
In football, Lake Zone boys got their campaign off to a flying start after they defeated Southern Highlands 2-0. In netball, Central Zone beat South Zone 27-19.
The winners were leading 14-9 at the interval. In handball; Central Zone boys prevailed against North West Zone, registering a 14-7 victory while Lake Zone clobbered West Lake, 18-12 and Dar es Salaam posted a 4-1 win over Lake Zone in the girls’ category.
