Winner of the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) Cargo Stars Snooker championship, Abbas Yusufali, is looking forward to compete in the international stage.
The youngster swept aside a challenge from Khuzema Kilango of Annadil Burhani club by 3-1 frames victory in a thrilling Division A final at the club on Sunday night.
The Division B title went to Abraham Sykes who triumphed against Zully Ladha of Upanga Club by 2-0 in the best of three frames final.
Yusufali expressed his determination to represent the country at the international stage when chance presents itself.
He told the ‘Daily News’ soon after the tournament that he is motivated to play snooker as part of socialising with people, but went ahead to say that he will not turn down a chance to play at the international level.
“I think my game has improved drastically and I’m ready to represent the country at the international level one day,” said Yusufali. Yusufali was happy with his current form that earned him a senior trophy that came just a month after he was promoted to Division A from Division B.
“Every game has its challenge, in Division A you have to concentrate more, every shot you make has to be point,” said Yusufali. To reach the final, Yusufali ousted tough DGC contenders Akili Akberali and Manish Khattar, and Mohamed Patiwa of Annadil Burhani.
On his side Sykes said it was good experience for him to win the trophy but said luck was on his side. “I cannot say I was better than others, I think luck was on my side,” said Sykes.
The Cargo Stars Ltd sponsored tournament drew a total of 42 players from three Dar based clubs Upanga, Annadil Burhani and hosts DGC.
