The Deputy Minister for Information, Youth, Culture and Sports, Juma Nkamia, will be the guest of honour at the closing ceremony of the 20th edition of Inter- Primary Schools Games (UMITASHUMTA) at the Kibaha Education Centre on Friday.
UMITASHUMTA national vice-chairman, Lawrence Ndege, confirmed that the Games will be closed by Nkamia.
Eastern Zone emerged the special football champions after defeating Dar es Salaam 5-3 on penalties in a thrilling final match on Friday after the two teams had tied 1-1 in regulation time.
Eastern Zone were the first to score through Simon Andrew in the 54th minute and Dar es Salaam levelled the matter in the dying minutes of the game through Sudi Bakari.
The winners’ penalties were converted by Godfrey Mandusi, Hassan Salum, Richard Nyandindi, Daniel Lapoi and Simon Andrew while Dar es Salaam scored through John Michael, Laurence Kigaula and Said Bakari as Lukwese Ibrahim wasted his. Central Zone finished third in special football with a 1-0 victory over Western Lake zone in another exciting match that preceded the final.
Meanwhile, Lake Zone, who were to take on Dar es Salaam in the football final, have been disqualified after losing an appeal filed by North Eastern Zone and Central Zone and their place has been taken by North Eastern Zone.
Lake Zone lost three points in the appeal after their player, identified by one name as Jitu, was discovered not to be a primary school pupil.
According to reports from the tournament’s supervisors, the accused player completed primary education (Class Seven) last year, but Lake Zone officials claim that he was transferred to the Alliance School where he repeated the grade.
In netball, Western Lake Zone placed third after defeating Eastern Zone 44- 39 in the third place playoff. The victors were too good for their opponents from the word go and they dominated all the quarters leading 15-11, 23-18 and 32-26.
