Youths from different places of Dar es Salaam region yesterday gathered at University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) sports grounds to commemorate the International Youths Day, which is celebrated every year.

They spent the day having fun, playing different games including basketball, football and music entertainment. The main theme in this year is “Youth and Mental Health”

The event was witnessed by some government and Non-government officials including Venerose Mtenga who is the Assistant Director of Training and Skills Development in the Ministry of Information, Youth, Culture and Sports.

Mtenga, who represented Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Information, Youth, Culture and Sports, Sihaba Mkinga, urged youths all over the country to engage in sports, saying it will help improve their physical fitness and keep themselves healthy.

“If you commit yourself to sports, you are safe from bad groups such as drug users and it will also help you to reduce stress,” she told the gathering.

The event was also attended by United Nations Populations Fund (UNFPA) country representative, Natalia Kanem who called on youth to recognise their talents and engage into development aspects of life.
