Teams that will compete in the forthcoming Union Netball Championship scheduled to be held in Morogoro region next month have been challenged to start preparations early so as to make the event more competitive.

This call was made yesterday by the Tanzania Amateur Netball Association, CHANETA Chairperson Anna Kibira, when briefing the ‘Sunday News’ about the eight-day championship, which is scheduled to throw off on September 2 to 9 this year in Morogoro.

Kibira named the teams which are expected to participate in the event which involves team from Tanzania Mainland and Isle as JKT Ruvu, Jeshi Stars, JKT Mbweni, Immigration (Uhamiaji) Tanzania, Mafunzo Zanzibar, JKU, Zimamoto and KVZ respectively.

“In this year’s event, Mainland will host the championship and we have decided the tournament will be held in Morogoro region. At the association level, preparations are well under way and we expect the teams will also embark in early preparations to make the event competitive,” she said.

However, CHANETA boss said the biggest challenge they are facing is lack of sponsorship for event. “We are in difficult situation right now.

We appeal to sports stakeholders and corporate to come forward and support us to ensure we stage a successful event,” he said. Kibara further revealed that the association failed to organise the national team ‘Taifa Queens’ camp in preparation for the forthcoming international competition.
