Federation’s Chairman Chris Omedo (pictured) said the federation had appointed branch coordinators to work closely with the Ministry of Sports to ensure the branch elections are held.

In a statement, Omedo said his team, which was elected to office three weeks ago, intends to get down to the serious business of reviving the once vibrant sport countrywide.

“We can only get to the grassroots by having strong branches at the county level,” said Omedo, adding that branch elections have been sanctioned by the national office.

“Membership recruitment is ongoing countrywide and we urge athletes and all stakeholders to register in large numbers as this comes with an added advantage when we will be having clinics, competitions and various fora,” he said.

He said those willing to participate in the election should pay Sh500 membership fee to qualify to participate in the branch elections.

TEMPORARY OFFICE

Omedo further announced that the federation has opened a temporary office at the Weider Shop, Hilton Hotel’s ground floor to co-ordinate the federation’s affairs.

He named former Mr Kenya Bokassa Onyango as the election co-ordinator for Mombasa, which will serve other counties in the Coast region.

Others are Steve Wekhule (Siaya), Vincent Otieno and Gaby Amolo (Kisumu), Sabatia Owiti and Kaqzenge (Eldoret), George Mulama and Malkiat Singh (Nakuru), Julias Ayata (Migori), George Wando (Bungoma/Kitale), George Obala (Busia), Dan Otieno (Kajiado) while Mike Otieno will be in charge of Mumias. Omedo said more branches will be opened in Nyeri and Kajiado.

He said a major competition will be held before the end of the year as several potential sponsors have shown interest in working with the new office.

As a result, arrangements for Mombasa are in top gear after body builders and stakeholders met to plan for the election. Two meetings have already been held to chart the way forward.
